This cartoon is about the right for patients to die. Euthanasia is a very controversial topic and many people for it argue using ethos. Is it ethical to leave someone in pain and disfigured living only on life support? Or should someone be left alive in pain just because they are bound by their religion? These are the questions the push euthanasia and may convince people that it is an ethical decision. It hard to think you are just letting a loved one die but maybe it is better for them to go rather then live in extreme pain.

  1. I think it's common, as you suggest, that in issues of life and death, arguments based on ethos and pathos often predominate. Perhaps it's because death is so unknowable, logic tends to take aback seat in such arguments. Or maybe logic is considered too cold and calculating for dealing with issues that are painful or personal.
